Personal training in San Diego
One coach, one plan and every rep counted. Train one-on-one or with two friends, then follow a written program on the days you lift alone.
Three reasons to hire a coach
Most people who book personal training at Ironpier fit one of these. If you don’t, tell us what you want at your trial.
New to lifting
You want someone to teach the squat, the hinge and the press from the ground up, at a pace that suits you and with nobody watching but your coach.
Coming back
Time off, a new baby, a desk job or an old injury. Your coach starts where you are this week, not where you were five years ago.
Chasing a number
A first powerlifting meet, a military fitness test, a long hike. Your plan works backwards from the date and tells you what each week is for.
How it works
The same four steps for everyone, whether you train twice a week or twice a month.
Assessment
Forty-five minutes: your goals, training history, a movement check and starting weights for the main lifts.
Program
A written plan for the next four weeks with sets, reps and target weights for every session, coached or alone.
Sessions
Your trainer loads the bar, counts the reps, fixes your positions and adjusts the plan on the spot.
Retest
Every four weeks you retest, look at what moved and what didn’t, and write the next block together.

Personal training questions
Do I need a gym membership for personal training?
No. You can train with a coach without a membership. You only need one if you want to use the gym between sessions, and the Ironwork plan bundles both.
Can I choose my trainer?
Yes. Read the trainer profiles and ask for someone by name when you book, or describe your goal and we will suggest the best fit.
What if I have an injury?
Tell us when you book. Your trainer will work around it and may ask you to check with your doctor or physical therapist first. Coaches don’t diagnose or treat injuries.
Your first rep is free.
Start with a free trial session. If personal training is right for you, your coach will book the assessment there and then.
